Colors are important to know and fun to learn. Use this week’s video to practice them with your child!
色は重要な単語で、学習を楽しいものにしてくれます。今週の動画を使って子供と一緒に練習しましょう！
Classroom Tip
Learning colors with this song has never been more fun. Students don’t often have a chance to run around the classroom freely, but with enough space you can let them move around finding objects of the target color. If you have less space, open your student books to the picture dictionary pages in the back and have students point to objects of the target color. Either way, after the song, model future language by saying, “Mizuki found a RED BALL.” You can do this for just a few objects, but it is a great way to personalize it and model adj+noun language target that reoccurs throughout Happy Valley.

At Home Tip
As your child watches the video, have them try to find objects of the same color asked in the song. For example, after you hear, “Can you find something blue?” you can look for blue things around your room. If you have a book with lots of pictures, open it to a colorful page and find the colors in there. After the song, say the objects you know in English. For example, “Green car.”
お家でのヒント
子供が動画を観ているとき、歌の中で質問された色と同じ色の物を探しましょう。たとえば、Can you find something blue? と聞いたら、部屋の中にある青い物を探しましょう。絵本があればカラフルなページを開き、その中で色を探すこともできます。歌が終わったら「Green car」など、英語で知っている物の名前を使って色を言ってみましょう。

“How was your presentation?”
“It was a fiasco! The projector didn’t work, and I forgot my notes.”
A fiasco is something that goes very badly. The word comes from the Italian word for “bottle”. There are many theories as to how this happened. It may have something to do with the practice of recycling flawed glass to make bottles.
「プレゼンどうだった？」
「大失敗だよ！プロジェクターが動かなくて、メモも忘れてしまった。」
Fiasco（フィアスコ）とは、まったく上手くいかないことで、イタリア語の「瓶」という意味です。なぜこの単語をこの意味で使う事になったのか？いくつかの仮説があります。もしかすると、うまく作れなかったガラスを再利用して瓶を作るからかもしれません。
“How do you like your new apartment?”
“It’s great! It’s worlds apart from our old place. That place was a dump!”
When two things are “worlds apart” it means there is a big difference between them. If the difference is as big as more than one world, that’s very big. We use this phrase to describe a striking contrast.
「新しいアパートはどう？」
「最高！前のアパートと全然違う。あそこはボロボロだったからね！」
2つのものが worlds apart 、つまり「とても違う」ということです。その差が世界の数個分ってことなのですごい差です。著しい対照に使うフレーズです。
“I got a new collar for Spot. Doesn’t he look handsome?”
Dogs and some other animals wear collars on their necks. For pets, the information on the collar can help them find their way home if they get lost. Perhaps your shirt also has a collar. The same word is used for shirt collars and dog collars.
「ポチに新しい首輪を買ったよ。ハンサムでしょ？」
犬などの動物にカラー（首輪）をつけますよね。ペットが迷子になった時、首輪に書いてある情報がとても役立ちます。あなたの着ているシャツにはカラー（襟）がありますか？犬の首輪とシャツの襟は同じ単語を使います。
In the hot summer weather, ice cream cones are a popular treat. These are just the cones with no ice cream yet. They are called waffle cones, because they have a similar pattern and shape. A waffle is flat, but imagine curling it into a cone shape.
暑い夏に食べるアイスクリームは最高ですね。この写真のコーン、ワッフルに模様や形が似ているのでワッフルコーンと呼びます。ワッフルは平ですが、こんな形に曲げたら似ていると思いませんか？
“Will they call us if there’s any delay with our order?”
“I should hope so!”
“Don’t worry, I’ll bring the dog inside if it snows.”
“I should hope so!”
Usually we use “should” to say what needs to be done or what people have to do. Sometimes, though, you will see it used for emphasis like this. This feels more emphatic than “I would hope so!” We use it to say something is expected and we would be very disappointed if it didn’t happen.
「注文が遅れるようなら向うから電話がくるのかい？」
「そう期待している！」
「心配ない、雪が降ってきたら犬を家に入れるよ。」
「当たり前でしょ！」
「Should」は普段、する必要があることやするべきことに使いますが、「hope」につけて強調に使うこともあります。「I would hope so」より少し強めに感じます。何かを期待して、そうしなければすごくがっかりするときなどに使います。
“We may not have the lowest prices, but we have plenty of customers because of our great _______ for quality service.”

「一番安い値段ではありませんが、クォリティーサービスの評判が素晴らしいのでお客様がたくさんいます。」
値段が一番安いという訳ではないがクォリティーが高いのに安いという評判はありえます。ですが、この言い方は少し矛盾しているように聞こえるので別な言い方をするはずです。Bは、お客さんに本社のクォリティーがよく知られているという意味でありえそうですが、形容詞です。ここは名詞が欲しいのでCかDにします。Cは評判でDは挨拶という意味ですので答えはCです。

These videos are great to use when you have a new class, want to review or have a guest in the class. This Q&A is one of the fundamental functions we want students to learn, and these videos make it fun. The song takes the pressure off of the kids to remember off the top of their heads and it will get stuck in their heads so they naturally repeat it as they sing. Set up your tablet, phone or computer in the class and let the kids practice saying their names after with the video. Then, they can Q&A with their new friend(s). Use the puppets in the back of the book to practice with their characters. Puppets take the pressure off, too, by letting kids speak as a character rather than themselves. This is great for quieter students and their fearless ones will enjoy playing a character.

Sing and dance with the characters, learning this fundamental function in English. Use the dialogue as an example and then, play with puppets or any stuffed animal or doll in your house. Ask and answer their names, modeling for your child and letting your child ask and answer when they are ready.

A mule is an animal like a small horse. A mule is an unusual animal, because it can’t reproduce! Where do mules come from then? A mule’s mother is a horse, and its father is a donkey. Mules combine the positive traits of both horses and donkeys, so they were often used for farming and transportation.
