魚介類は総合的にseafoodですが、貝類はshellfishです。川や湖などの淡水魚はfreshwater fishです。
イカはsquidですが、体の短いコウイカや紋甲イカはcuttlefishと言います。
面白い魚の名前をいくつか紹介しますね。

どこの国にもあるのが子供の受験。韓国の受験は有名ですが、アフリカにもあります。
ガーナ在住の知り合いは、中学生の息子のお受験で大変です。ガーナにも受験があるんですって。私立中学から私立高校への受験は大変で、成績が悪いと学校側から「うちの制服を着て受験に行かないで！どこかの公立校の制服を着て行ってちょうだい！」って校長先生から言われるそうです。なので成績の悪い子供の親は、よその中学校の制服を受験の為だけに買いに行くそうです。子供には酷だな～。

皆さん、お肉の名前をちゃんと知ってますか？
英語で「meat」に分類されるのは、牛、豚、羊などで、鳥は「poultry」です。
では、本題です。
牛肉はbeef、豚肉はpork、鶏肉はchicken、羊肉はlambやmuttonですね。
では、鹿肉はなんでしょうか？ deer meatじゃないですよ！venisonです。
子牛は？ 正解はvealです。

Students can wear different combinations of clothes. Bring in old clothes in which students can dress up over their own clothes. Set a timer and see how quickly they can put on the clothes. After, they can say what they are wearing.

This chant from Happy Valley Student Book 2, Unit 8, introduces the clothes we often wear in the cooler months. Make a bag with clothes that are bigger than your child, and set a timer to see how quickly they can put on the clothes. Once dressed, say the items they are wearing. As your child can say the words themselves, they can tell you and without looking at them you can put on your own clothes to match their outfits.

海外でホームステイしたことある人、こんな経験ないですか？
食事の時に「ナイフとフォーク、上手に使えるのね～」って言われたこと。
いつの時代だよ！いまどき誰でも使えるよ！って思いますよね。
この逆バージョンで、日本に住んでいる外国人も日本人に「お箸を上手に使えるのね～」って言われることが多いそうです。たいていの人は子供扱いされているように感じてしまうとか。
では、カレーを手で食べたことありますか？私は何度かチャレンジしたけど、意外に難しいんです。手で上手くカレーを食べれるようになって褒められたい！

Vehicle この単語、海外の道路標識で見たことないですか？「車・乗り物・車両」といった意味で乗り物全般を指します。Car だと乗用車になるので、Vehicleの方がより幅広い意味になります。
Hornet 最近見かける怖い奴、スズメバチです。Waspとも呼びます。Beeはミツバチです。

炭水化物と炭水化物の組み合わせ。例えば焼きそばパンや関西では定番のお好み焼きとご飯の定食など。イギリスにもありましたよ！ダイエットの大敵メニュー、その名もChip butty（チップバティ）。イギリスではフライドポテトのことをチップスといいます。これはフライドポテトのサンドウィッチなんですね～。野菜ゼロ！

英語を上達するには英語のニュースや番組を見た方がよいと言いますが、やっぱり難しいですよね。お勧めは天気予報です！画面に天気図があらわれて、しかも話しながらどこのことを言っているのか指さしてくれます！文章もお天気の表現なので比較的簡単です。みなさん、ぜひチャレンジしてください。お勧めはBBCの天気予報です。

This chant from Happy Valley Student Book 2, Unit 9, introduces animals we often find on farms. After Storytime, do the chant and then do again with gestures. Then sing the song “Kinka and Pinka on the Farm” to introduce the sounds these animals make. This is a great unit to play charades with to review animal names, but also a chance for students to play Slap (karuta), asking What says moo-moo? so students can slap pictures of the animals. As students become confident, they can answer aloud with the animal name. The conversation encourages students to encourage each other by saying Good! Supporting students’ ability to encourage one another can really foster nice relationships between students, improving the group’s dynamics. If you have small animal figurines (you can also use flashcards), pretend that the animals have all run away. Hide them in the room and have the students search for them. Ask them what they can find, and when they discover one of the animals they can say its name in English and put it back on the farm.

Using books you have at home, search for the different animals and identify them using English. If you have small animal figurines, pretend that the animals have all run away. イギリスでパブに行ったことありますか？ビールはパイントまたはハーフパイントというサイズでオーダーします。1パイントは568 mlぐらいかな。ハーフパイントはその半分ね。どのグラスにも上の方に横線が書いてあります。なんだ？この線は？
実はこのグラスで計量できるようになっていて、その線まで注いで1パイントなんです。この線より少ないと違法なんだって。だから溢れそうなぐらい注がれているんですね。
みなさん、日本の居酒屋で「泡ばっかりで少ない！」って思ったことないですか？日本にも取り入れてほしいですね。
